BMW - Bavarian masterpiece

The circular blue and white BMW logo or roundel is often alleged to portray the movement of an airplane propeller, to signify the white blades cutting through the blue sky – an interpretation that BMW adopted for convenience in 1929, which was actually twelve years after the roundel was created.

In fact, the emblem evolved from the circular Rapp Motorenwerke company logo, from which the BMW company grew. The Rapp logo was combined with the blue and white colors of the flag of Bavaria to produce the BMW roundel so familiar today. (Source: Wikipedia)

The classic

Some of Volkswagen’s popular cars are the Golf, Jetta, Polo, Beetle and the Passat. VW’s as they are commonly known, have also entered the off road segment with cars like the Touarag, and the commercial segment with the Touran. This year sees VW’s 21st anniversary since the Golf 1 entered our shores in the 1980′s.

With record sales every year the Golf 1 remains the hottest hatch in the market. Since its birth VW has sold over 315 000 uits of the Golf 1 alone. 2005 saw the entry of the fifth generation of the Golf. The flagbearer – the GTi – is powered by a 147Kw 2.0l 4 cylinder turbo charged engine, with VW DSG and FSI technology. The Golf GTi has evolved a long way since the 80′s but the fifth generation GTi is criticised as it does not live up to the expectations and standards set by the legendary Mk1 GTi, which was fitted with an 1800, 8 valve motor. The luxury of Lexus

Lexus originated from a clandestine flagship sedan project that began in 1983. This effort developed into the original Lexus LS, which was the first vehicle to wear the Lexus marque upon its launch in 1989. In following years, Lexus added sedan, coupe, convertible, and SUV models. In 2005, a hybrid version of the RX crossover debuted, and additional hybrid models were subsequently introduced to the Lexus lineup. In 2007, Lexus launched its F marque performance division with the arrival of the IS F sport sedan.

Volvo is rolling on!

Volvo, maintain it and make it last forever ...

Volvo means “I roll” in Latin, conjugated from “volvere” (cp the ball bearing producer SKF). The name Volvo was originally registered in May 1911 as a separate company within SKF AB and as a registered trademark with the intention to be used for a special series of ball bearing, but this idea was only used for a short period of time and SKF decided to use “SKF” as the trademark for all its bearing products.

The first series produced Volvo automobile, the Volvo ÖV 4, left the factory on 14 April 1927 which became the official date for the founding of Volvo.

In 1999 Volvo sold its car division Volvo Cars to Ford for $6.45 billion. Repeated reports in the media about Ford selling off Volvo Cars have been refuted by the company. However, on 1 December 2008, Ford announced that it will “re-evaluate its strategic options for Volvo”, including the possible sale of the marque.

The last ten years the company has undergone rapid growth in the service area with, for example, financial solutions supporting the sales of the manufacturing business units. In 2006, AB Volvo acquired from Nissan Motor Co Ltd, 13% of the shares in the Japanese truck manufacturer Nissan Diesel, and became major shareholder. Land Rover – When the Going Gets Tough

Land Rover is an all-terrain vehicle and Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) manufacturer, based in Solihull, West Midlands, England, now operated as part of the Jaguar Land Rover business owned by Tata Motors of India.

Originally the term Land Rover referred to one specific vehicle (see Land Rover Series), a pioneering civilian all-terrain utility vehicle launched on 30 April 1948, at the Amsterdam Motor Show, but was later used as a brand for several distinct models, all capable of four-wheel drive.

Starting out as a model in the Rover Company’s product range, the Land Rover brand developed, first as a marque, then as a separate company, developing a range of four-wheel drive capable vehicles under a succession of owners, including British Leyland, British Aerospace and BMW. In 2000, the company was sold by BMW to the Ford Motor Company, becoming part of their Premier Automotive Group. In June 2008, Ford sold its Jaguar and Land Rover operations to Tata Motors. Land Rover is one of the longest surviving Four-wheel drive (4WD) brands, coming in close second to Jeep.
